How to SEO Optimize Archive Links in Blogger?

As we’ve been talking about blogger SEO in deep. I previously published two different posts covering how to optimize blogger label links and how to optimize blogger’s comments?. And Thus, I’ve come up today with another similar post and this is about optimizing the archive links in Blogger. These links hold our blog’s history either orderly by month, by year or by day and week. So, links inside archives are pointing to different posts existing in our blog which were published in the past. These archives links basically can create problems for search engines’ robots as crawling duplicate content from our blog. Because as I already mentioned in my previous posts that a page should have only a unique address for search engines to be crawled. Different addresses create problems for search engines and the site owner too. Because it create duplicate content issues which is very harmful for a blog.

How to Avoid Search Engines from crawling Archives?

We don’t need much to do to avoid search robots for crawling archive pages, because we’ll have to add just an extra attribute to the HTML part of our blog and that will solve the issue. Follow given steps below to resolve the issue today:

1. Go to Blogger
2. Template >> HTML >> Proceed >> Tick the Expand Widget Template
3. Now Find Below Line Of Code in Your Template

<a class=’post-count-link’ expr:href=’data:i.url’>

Just replace the above code with this one:

<a rel=”archives” class=’post-count-link’ expr:href=’data:i.url’>

Save the template and you’re done. This will tell the search engines’ that the link is an archive page so they will automatically understand it and won’t crawl it.

Additional Tips

Additionally if you go to any of your blog’s dashboard and do the following then it is also possible that search engines won’t crawl the archive pages and other unnecessary pages. Do the following means, to make some advance SEO setting in Blogger new interface. Just take these steps:

1. Go to Blogger Dashboard
2. Setting >> Search Preferences >> Scroll down the page and see Custom Robots Header Tags
3. Edit >> Yes >> and now make this setting which is showing in below picture

Save your template and you’ve added no index  attribute to all of your archive pages.
